Argentina: Mothers of Plaza de Mayo mark 40th anniversary of search for missing children

The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Association walked inside the Basilica of Lujan, Saturday, marking the 40th anniversary since the group first wore the iconic white headscarf. Hebe de Bonafini, the president of the group, said «Why did a small group come to Lujan 40 years ago? Because not all had the courage to come, a small group with the handkerchief to make children visible, to ask those who... Еще prayed for the abyss, for the potatoes, for the sick, for the poor. There were thousands of disappeared who also needed a prayer.» The headscarves symbolise the fight to find their missing children, which disappeared during Argentina’s military dictatorship 1976-1983.
