Argentinian Minister of Security Patricia Bullrich revealed details of the police operation behind the seizure of 389 kilogrammes (857.59 pounds) of cocaine worth around 50 million Euros ($62 million) from the Russian embassy in Buenos Aires during a press conference on Thursday. According to Bullrich, the Russian ambassador and three members of the Russian federal security service reported... The 389 kilogrammes of cocaine were later replaced by flour in a ploy to track and arrest the traffickers. «We placed a tracking device in each bag and a monitoring centre was placed in the gendarmerie with cameras that were on 24 hours a day so that we could monitor what was happening,» Bullrich added. With the full knowledge of the Russian Embassy and Federal Security Service, the fake cocaine cargo later flew to Russia where the drug gang members, including a former Embassy employee and a police officer, were apprehended. As for the origin of the drug and its destination, Bullrich said, «It can be from Colombia or Peru… The destination can be the World Cup of Russia or it could be for normal consumption.»
