Former Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner celebrated her return to politics with a successful election as senator for Buenos Aires at a rally in the city centre on Sunday, despite her centre-left party's overall loss in the electoral legislative campaign. Kirchner came second behind Education Minister Esteban Bullrich, but is still able to become a senator under Argentina's system. Current Argentine President Mauricio Macri's Cambiemos (Let's change) party is set to take majority of the 72 senate seats, with 127 seats also still available in the Lower House. Election to as a senator will also give Kirchner immunity from prosecution. The former President and her children are accused of money laundering and bribery through their company Los Sauces during Kirchner's twelve-year term of office.
