Argentina: 'Cuddle curtain’ reconnects nursing home residents with their families

With the help of an ingenious plastic curtain, a nursing home in Tandil has made hugging during the coronavirus quarantine a possibility. The Reminiscence nursing home allows residents to hug their loved ones by using the curtain complete with plastic sleeves at their front door to prevent the risk of contagion. After months of isolation, relatives are finally able to visit and hold their loved ones again, as seen on Monday. «It is beautiful, it is beautiful to have contact again, and to feel it, I have missed it very much and with this system it feels that the distance is much shorter,» said Florencia Agustina Torres, granddaughter of a resident who lives in the Reminiscence nursing home. Anahi Soulie, the owner of the care home came up with the idea of installing the 'cuddle curtain’ at the facility after seeing footage on the Internet of a similar system being used in Spain. «It is like what a grandmother did, every time the doors are opened, the grandmother says 'we are going to the door of freedom.' They believe that this door, like the one we're seeing, it gives them joy, satisfaction, to see family members,» she said. As of Tuesday, there were 23,620 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Argentina with 693 related deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
