The Catholic Church celebrated a mass on Sunday against the bill to legalise abortion that the government of President Alberto Fernandez will send to the Argentine Congress in the coming days.
The mass brought together a large crowd in front of the Basilica of Lujan, which is located about 75 kilometres (46 miles) from Buenos Aires, and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the... Еще country.
«[I come to] ask the Lord and our Lady of Lujan to stop the crime of abortion,» said Adriana Caro, an assistant at the mass.
On March 1, Fernandez announced that he would introduce the bill to legalise abortion in the next 10 days, and that the goal of legalising it was to allow women to access the health system to have an abortion, thus eliminating the risks they may face if they get one illegally.
Carlos Barberan, one of the attendees at the mass, spoke against this proposal, saying that if the objective is «to help women who are in vulnerable situations, the project will not help them.»
The legalisation of abortion is one of the main issues on Fernandez's agenda.
