Argentina: Bolsonaro worried about 'new Venezuelas' after Macri meetings

Argentinian President Mauricio Macri held meetings with his Brazilian counterpart Jair Bolsonaro in Buenos Aires on Thursday. Speaking to journalists afterwards, Macri highlighted they discussed the commitment with the defence of human rights, and referred to the situation in Venezuela. «We both ratified our commitments in solidarity, and we will keep doing everything possible to help... Еще reestablishing democracy in Venezuela,» said the Argentinian leader. «I think all South America is worried that we don't have new 'Venezuelas' in the region,» added the Brazilian President. According to both leaders, Mercosur was also a topic of discussion as the economic bloc is about to sign a new deal with the European Union. «We are very close to make a deal with the European Union, and then with EFTA [European Free Trade Association], Canada, Korea. These are big opportunities to advance the global integration that will allow a new dynamism to our industrial development and to our agriculture,» said Macri. This was Bolsonaro's first official trip to the neighbouring country since he took office. In January of this year, Macri, candidate for reelection, was in Brasilia. mandatory credit: casa rosada
