The Argentine government allowed the 42 passengers with Argentine nationality travelling on board the Coral Princess cruise ship to disembark at the port of Buenos Aires on Thursday.
The remaining 1,720 passengers had to remain on board due to the 15-day border closure announced by Argentine President Alberto Fernandez on March 15. Before being permitted to disembark, all passengers were checked for symptoms corresponding with coronavirus. Argentine passengers will have to comply with the mandatory 14-day quarantine.
Footage shows the cruise ship docked at the port, and the passengers who were able to disembark entering buses that took them out of the Quinquela Martin cruise terminal.
Argentina is the country with the sixth-most confirmed cases in Latin America, with 97, while three deaths have been confirmed. According to reports, there are more than 2,000 cases and 21 deaths in the region so far.
