Thousands of people took to the streets of Tirana, Saturday, to protest against the Albanian government, accusing it of links to organised crime and calling for its resignation.

In October 2017, Albanian and Italian media released transcripts of Italian police wiretaps of alleged drug smugglers, in which they mentioned former Albanian Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri as someone they bribed with drug money. Tahiri has denied all allegations.
