Thousands of protesters held an anti-government rally in Tirana on Saturday, calling for the resignation of Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, accusing him having links to organised crime. Demonstrators threw smoke grenades amid the crowd, while holding anti-government posters and Albanian and European Union flags. Leader of the anti-government Democratic Party Lulzim Basha was among those... Еще leading the rally. According to local media, a group of protesters knocked down one of the fences of the Interior Ministry and tried to break through a police cordon. Authorities said that 11 officers were injured. In October last year, Albanian and Italian media released transcripts of alleged drug smugglers recorded by Italian police wiretaps, in which smugglers were heard saying naming former Albanian Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri as someone they had bribed with drug money. Tahiri was placed under house arrest on May 12 on charges of drug trafficking, membership of a criminal organisation, and corruption.
