Afghanistan: Villagers pray for 14 civilians killed by alleged US drone attack

Local residents from the Chawki district of the Kunar Province gathered on Friday, to pray for 14 civilians that were reportedly killed by an alleged US drone attack the day before. Kunar Province MP Shahzada Shahid was among those praying for the victims. He explained that many of the bodies could not be properly identified and that, «the villagers are very upset about this incident, people are... Еще now busy with the funeral ceremony of the 14 civilians from the area». The civilians are believed to have been killed in an attack that was targeting members of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL) and members of the Taliban within the area. According to testimonies from locals, the victims were on their way to a wedding when they stopped to rest and were killed by an alleged drone attack. «There is no doubt that they were civilians, they were not armed with weapons and those that were killed were oppressed», Shahid said. Ruptly contacted NATO Mission in Afghanistan's Resolute Support but received no response. Local media have conflicting reports on the numbers of casualties and it is yet unconfirmed that a drone was responsible for the attack.
