Afghanistan: Security forces take on Taliban in areas previously controlled by Islamic State

Afghan security forces have been patrolling areas in the Nayzan district of the Nangarhar region taken over by the Taliban after the defeat of the Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL). Footage filmed on Monday shows Afghan soldiers at a security checkpoint which has been recently attacked by the Taliban. «This whole area was under ISIL control. Then we launched an operation against them and we eliminated them. But very soon after, the Taliban came here and now this side is under Taliban control. A few days ago in the middle of the night they started attacks on our checkpoint from a very close distance, just five meters, two of our colleagues were killed and five others were wounded. Nine Taliban fighters were killed,» said Afghan security forces member Ajeer Mohammad. Security forces also displayed some items and materials recovered from the Taliban forces and highlighted evidence of fighting in the area.
