Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid announced on Twitter that the militant group claimed responsibility for the attack.
Earlier last week, the top US envoy urged the warring parties in the country to stop violence and reach a ceasefire.
Despite signing a peace agreement with Washington in February allowing a US troops withdrawal, the Taliban carried out several attacks and inflicted heavy losses on Afghan security forces in the past few months.
