Afghanistan: Jalalabad reacts to UN report on civilians killed by US-backed forces

Residents of Jalalabad commented on the rising civilian death toll caused by international and pro-government forces in recent months, from the capital of Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan, as footage filmed on Wednesday shows. According to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), international and US-backed and pro-government forces were responsible for 305 civilian... Еще deaths during the first three months of 2019. The majority of the 305 deaths resulted from US airstrikes or search operations on the ground, primarily conducted by US-backed forces. In contrast, opposition forces killed 227 people during the same time period. «Don't target civilians. Sometimes you claim that you are able to see everything on the Earth, but unfortunately we see you carrying out airstrikes on wedding and funeral ceremonies, even on [allied] military convoys,» said Jalalabad resident, Abdurrahman. «Lots of our people have been killed or injured, women have become widows, children have lost their fathers, people have lost eyes. We want the Americans and ISIS to stop killing our people,» stated Dilawar Khan, adding that «We don't want the US and NATO here, we will work with each other.» «If American forces do not decide about the civilian casualties in Afghanistan and they continue the killing of civilians by naming them insurgents, the future will be very bad for them,» concluded Hayatullah, another resident of Jalalabad.
