Protesters rallied in front of the Iranian Council in Herat on Monday to demonstrate against the drowning of Afghan migrants in the border area with neighbouring Iran. Herat residents were demanding punishment for Iranian border guards who allegedly forced several Afghan migrants into a river before they drowned.
«We are asking the international communities including human rights [organisations... Еще] to act and closely investigate the case of drowning migrants into river by Iranian police, and share their investigation with us,» said Arish Bashir, one of the demonstrators who attended the protest.
According to reports, Afghan officials claim the migrants died while illegally crossing into Iran from Afghanistan's western Herat Province, earlier this month.
On May 8, Herat Province Governor Abdul Ghani Noori reportedly said that 18 bodies out of the 55 migrants who were allegedly forced into the river were recovered by authorities.
