107-year-old man defies the odds to cast vote in Indian elections

A 107-year-old man who lives 20 kilometres (12 miles) away from the nearest polling booth and is unable to walk battled the odds to cast his vote in India’s general elections, as seen in footage filmed in the northern Indian city of Agra on Thursday. Family members and young men from his village rallied around to help Ram Prasad to the polling booth, carrying him there in his bed so he could cast... Еще his ballot. The senior citizen has voted 16 times since the first general elections in 1952 and his enthusiasm for democracy has not dampened with age. India’s 2019 general elections are the world’s biggest democratic exercise, with over 900 million eligible voters. Voting is taking place in seven stages between April 11 and May 19.
