100-year-old walks hundreds of laps in his London garden to raise money for COVID-19 victims

100-year-old Dabirul Islam Choudhury has started a 500-lap charity walk in his communal garden in London, footage from Thursday shows. Dabirul Islam Choudhury, originally from present-day Bangladesh but now an East London resident, has challenged himself to walk 500 laps in his garden to raise money during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. «The target was 100 times, but the donations went... Еще, exceeded past what we were expecting. I think within the first 8 hours we'd received more than 1000 pounds (1141.99 Euros, 1234.67 USD) and within 8 days it became 60,000 pounds (68,4500 Euros, 74,1400 USD). So my dad has set a target that he'll actually walk the communal gardens which are 80 meters from one side to the other 500 times. And he's already done 350 times and we are going to carry on for the whole of Ramadan,» explained Dabirul's son Atique Choudary, who helped Dabirul set up the Online charity page. «When I proposed to my son Atique Choudhury that this my ambition, what do you think? Better, do it do it. The more I run, better I feel. This is the grace of god,» Dabirul said, emphasizing that people were starving and in desperate need of money. According to Dabirul's crowdfunding page, the money raised will be given to Channel S Television's Ramadan Family Commitment (RFC) Covid19 Crisis Initiative, who will distribute the funds to «victims of COVID-19 both in the UK, Bangladesh and over 50 countries.» Dabirul's crowdfunding page, where thousands of pounds have already been donated, can be found here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/dabirul-islam-choudhury
